Beneficiation
It is the stage in which the dried coffee fruit is prepared to become “green coffee”. The benefit is in two steps: Cleaning and Peeling.
CLEANING – Lots of dried fruit coffee are cleaned using a set consisting of:
1) Game Spout → It will separate the coffee from the lightest impurities such as: soil and stones;
2) Soil pieces collector → It is widely used in regions of purple soil and mainly in Paraná. It consists of a rotating magnetized steel cylinder, under which pass the coffees coming from the game spout, attracting the soil pieces that due to the magnetic (iron) contained in them, are attached to the magnetized cylinder;
3) Stone Picker → Completes the cleaning work started at the game nozzle. The coffee goes down a corridor and receives in the opposite direction, a draft which forces the coffee back while the heavier impurities (stones) under which the wind cannot act continue to rise until they are eliminated by an opening.
STRIPPING – Receives coffee from the stone picker and strips it by separating the beans from the husks that are thrown out of the machine.
Drying
For the preservation of many products after harvesting, drying is an indispensable operation and, in most cases, is the stage that demands the largest amount of energy during preprocessing. In general, the heating of the air used in drying operations comes from the thermal energy produced by burning biomass in devices known as furnaces.
In the particular case of coffee growing, eucalyptus firewood, coffee tree trunks originated from drastic pruning or renewal, and coffee straw (not recommended) have been the main biomass used to heat the drying air. All with the utmost care to ensure that your coffee reaches the optimum humidity level for efficient processing.
